A galvanometer is an electromechanical device used to detect the electric current in a circuit.

  • It works as an actuator, by producing a rotary deflecting of a pointer when an electric current flowing through a coil in the constant magnetic field.
  • During transportation, if any emf induced due to a stray magnetic field or any other changes, then there must be a damping resistance across the galvanometer terminal to protect the galvanometer.
