Correct Answer - Option 2 : Associate official language

English is a global language spoken by 700 hundred million people in the world. It is officially recognized all over the world. It is the link language in India.

  • Since English is a language of international communication, learning the English Language is a common goal for Indians.

Place of English language in Indian Constitution:

  • The Official Language Act allows for the continuation of English alongside Hindi in the Indian government indefinitely until legislation decides to change it.
  • In the Indian constitution, English occupies an important place in India along with the Hindi language as an 'associate official language' i.e., all the official documents will be published in these two languages.
  • It is a language of the library, language of media, language of trade, internet, commerce, business, international negotiations, and higher education. That's why the Indian government recognized it and made it the associate official language of India.
  • The Hindi language will remain the official language of India under Article 343 (1) of the Indian Constitution as it is being spoken by the majority of the population around the country.

Hence, we conclude that the English language in the Indian Constitution is recognized as the Associate Official language.
