Concept:

A bar chart or bar graph is a chart or graph that presents categorical data with rectangular bars with heights or lengths proportional to the values that they represent.

In order to show the bar chart for activities the length of the bar represent the time required for completion of that activity.

The main advantages of bar chart are

  • Bar charts are easy to read and understand
  • The clear relationship between size and value allows easy comparison

The main disadvantages of bar chart are:

  • It cannot show the sufficient detail to enable timely detection of schedule slippages.
  • The bar chart does not show the dependency relationships among activities
  • It is essentially a manual graphical presentations.
  • Bar graphs tend to be locked into a particular data set, making it hard to show multiple values or changes over time unless the chart is modified.
