How is the amount of urine produced regulated?

1. The amount of urine produced largely depends on the amount of water reabsorbed in the renal tubule.

2. The amount of water reabsorbed by the renal tubule largely depends on the amount of water present in excess in the body need to be removed. If water is abundantly present in the body tissues large quantities of dilute urine is send out of the body. When water is less in quantities in the body tissues a small quantity of concentrated urine is excreted. 

3. When there is more quantity of dissolved wastes in the body more quantity of water is required to excrete them. So the amount of urine produced increases. 

4. Deficiency of vasopressin causes excessive, repeated, dilute urination called diabetes insipidus.
