  • Golaknath case, 1967
    • Parliament enacted 24th Constitutional Amendment Act in the year 1971 which enabled Parliament to dilute Fundamental Rights through amendments.
    • This was enacted after a judgement has been passed by SC in Golaknath case relating to parliaments power to amend the constitution.
    • SC said that Parliament cannot amend Fundamental Rights.
    • This amendment gave absolute power to the Parliament of India to amend the constitution.
  • 24th Constitution Amendment Act, 1971
    • Affirmed the power of Parliament to amend any part of the constitution including Fundamental Rights.
    • Made it compulsory for the president to give consent to the constitution amendments bill.
  • Kesavananda Bharati case, 1973
    • Parliament can amend any part of the constitution but cannot disrupt the basic structure of the constitution.
    • SC held that Parliament cannot take the power of Judicial Review.
  • 42nd Constitution Amendment Act, 1976
    • The words Socialist, Secular, and Integrity were not in the original constitution. These were inserted by 42nd amendment act.
