Correct Answer - Option 1 : Bit depth

The correct answer is bit depth.

  • In digital audio using pulse-code modulation (PCM), bit depth is the number of bits of information in each sample, and it directly corresponds to the resolution of each sample.
  • The sample size more accurately, the number of bits used to describe each sample is called the bit depth or word length. The number of bits transmitted per second is the bit rate.

  • The instantaneous amplitude level in each sample is given the value of the nearest measuring increment a process called quantization.
  • The higher the bit depth, the more data will be captured to more accurately re-create the signal.  If the bit depth is too low, the information will be lost, and the reproduced sample will be degraded.
