Correct Answer - Option 4 : 75,000

Given:

Salary spent on rent = 10%

Salary spent on transport of the balance = 20%

Salary spent on food of the balance = 40%

Salary spent on various bills of the balance = 80%

Money deposited in bank = Rs. 5000

Money kept for his own petty expenditure = Rs. 1480

Calculation:

Let total salary be Rs. 100x

Salary spent on rent = 10% of Rs. 100x

⇒ (100x × 10/100)

⇒ 10x

Remaining salary spent on transport = 20% of 90x

⇒ (20/100 × 90x)

⇒ 18x

Remaining salary spent on food = 40% of 72x

⇒ (40/100 × 72x)

⇒ 28.8x

Remaining salary spent on various bills = 80% of 43.2x

⇒ (80/100 × 43.2x)

⇒ 34.56x

Remaining salary = 100x – (10 + 18 + 28.8 + 34.56)x

⇒ (100 – 91.36)x

⇒ 8.64x

Money deposited in the bank and saved for his own petty expenditure = Rs. (5000 + 1480)

⇒ Rs. 6480

Now, as per the question,

⇒ 8.64x = Rs. 6480

⇒ 100x = (6480/8.64 × 100)

⇒ Rs. 75,000

∴ His monthly salary is Rs. 75,000
