Correct Answer - Option 2 : slow oxidation

The correct answer is slow oxidation.

White Phosphorus properties

  • Translucent in appearance like white waxy solid.
  • Poisonous in nature.
  • Less stable and more reactive.
  • Does not dissolve in water.
  • When mixed with Carbon Disulphide, it dissolves.
  • Glows in the dark (chemiluminescence).
  • White Phosphorus emits a faint glow when exposed to Oxygen because of a chemical reaction taking place on its surface (Slow oxidation of white phosphorus), only if the darkened room has oxygen in it. Hence option 2 is correct.
