Given:

Formula used:

M1D1 = M2D2

Where,

M1 = Men1 , D1 = Days1 

M2 = Men2 , D2 = Days2 

Calculation:

Let be the x persons were employed to do the work initially,

If 45 persons more = (x + 45)

According to the question,

M1D1 = M2D2

⇒ x × 40 = (x + 45) × 25

⇒ x × 40 = 25x + 1125

⇒ 15x = 1125

⇒ x = 75

∴ 75 persons were employed to do the work initially.
