Correct Answer - Option 1 : 4000

Given:

Successive discounts of  the earphone was 15% and 8%

Selling Price of  the earphone is Rs. 3128

Formula used:

Net discount = [a + b - (ab)/100]%

Where,

a = first discount rate of the earphone

b = second discount rate of the earphone

Calculation:

Let cost price of the earphone be Rs. x

a = 15%, b = 8%

Net discount = [15 + 8 - (15 × 8)/100]%

⇒ Net discount = [23 - (120)/100]

⇒ Net discount = [23 - 1.2] = 21.8%

⇒ Marked up price of the earphone × (100 - Net discount)/100 = 3128

⇒ x × (100 - 21.8)/100 = 3128

⇒ x × 78.2/100 = 3128

⇒ x = 4000

The marked up price of the earphone is Rs. 4000.
