Best answer
Correct Answer - Option 2 : x < y

Calculation:

From I,

x2 – 3x – 180 = 0

⇒ x2 – 15x + 12x – 180 = 0

⇒ x(x – 15) + 12(x – 15) = 0

⇒ (x + 12)(x – 15) = 0

⇒ x = –12, 15

From II,

y2 – 34y + 288 = 0

⇒ y2 – 18y - 16y + 288 = 0

⇒ y(y – 18) - 16(y – 18) = 0

⇒ (y – 18)(y – 16) = 0

⇒ y = 18, 16

Comparison between x and y (via Tabulation):

∴ The correct answer is x < y
