  • Ganga River:
    • The Ganga is an Asian cross-border river that flows through India and Bangladesh. 
    • It is originated in the western Himalayas in Uttarakhand, India, flows south and east through the Ganges Plain in northern India, reaches Bangladesh, and then flows into the Bay of Bengal.
    • On November 4, 2008, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declared the Ganges River as the national river of India. Since then, it has been part of the national symbol of India.
    • The Namami Gange plan is a comprehensive protection task.
    • It was approved by the coalition government as a flagship plan in June 2014 to achieve the dual goals of effectively reducing pollution and protecting and rejuvenating the Ganga.

  • Gandak River:
    • ​Gandak originates from the north of Dhaulagiri in Tibet near Nepal and enters into the Indian Territory near Triveni town in Nepal.
    • Gandak flows in a southern direction and forms a boundary between Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Gandak drains its water in West Champaran, East Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Gopalgunj, Siwan, Saran, and Vaishali district of Bihar.
    • It is the Triveni Canal that gets water from the Gandak River.
  • Kosi River:
    • ​Kosi is known as the ‘sorrow of Bihar’.
    • Kosi is also known as 'Saptakoshi' for its seven upper tributaries.
    • It enters the Territory of India near Hanuman Nagar in Nepal and joins the Ganga River near Kursela in the Kathihar district.
  • Ghaghra River:
    • Ghaghra river originates on the Tibetan Plateau near Lake Manasarovar.
      • It is also known as Saryu.
      • It originates in Nepal.
