Correct Answer - Option 3 : Dischargeable batteries

Thermistor is a shortening of the words thermal resistor.

It is essentially a thermally sensitive resistor, giving a change in resistance for a change in temperature.

Thermistors have two variations: positive temperature coefficient (PTC) and negative temperature coefficient (NTC).

These types refer to the direction of resistance change with respect to an increase in temperature.

For instance, a PTC type's resistance will increase with a rise in temperature. An NTC type will behave in the opposite manner.

Applications of  thermistors:

1.Thermistors are also commonly used in modern digital thermostats and to monitor the temperature of battery packs while charging.

2. Thermistors can be used as heating elements in small temperature-controlled ovens. As the temperature rises, resistance increases, decreasing the current and the heating. The result is a steady state.

3. Thermistor is used as automotive temperature sensors which are  used to measure temperature at many places in an automobile. Eg-Oil and coolant temperature in car and trucks.

4. NTC thermistors can be used as inrush-current limiting devices in power supply circuits. They present a higher resistance initially which prevents large currents from flowing at turn-on, and then heat up and become much lower resistance to allow higher current flow during normal operation.

5. NTC thermistors are used as resistance thermometers in low temperature measurements of the order of 10 K.

6. PTC thermistors can be used as current limiting devices in electronic circuits, where they can be used as an alternative to a fuse.
