  • He was an influential minister and statesman of the Maratha Empire during the Peshwa administration.
  • After the assassination of Peshwa Narayanrao in 1773, Nana Phadnavis managed the administration of the state with the help of a twelve-member regency council known as the Barabhai council.
    • The council was Nana's mastermind plan to protect Madhavrao II, son of Narayanrao.
  • The members of the council were Haripant Phadke, Sakaram Bapu Bokil, Trimbakraomama Pethe, Mahadji Shinde, Phaltankar, Bhagwanrao Pratinidhi, Sardar Raste, and Babuji Naik.

  • He was Peshwa of the Maratha Empire in India, from his infancy.
  • He was known as Sawai Madhav Rao or Madhav Rao Narayan.
  • He was considered the legal heir and was installed as Peshwa by the Treaty of Salbai in 1782.
Baji Rao II
  • Shrimant Peshwa Baji Rao II was the 13th and the last Peshwa of the Maratha Empire.
  • In 1817, Baji Rao II joined the Third Anglo-Maratha War against the British.
  • Treaty of Bassein 1802 was done between the British East India company and Baji Rao II who was a Maratha Peshwa.
Mahadji Scindia
  • He was the fifth son of Ranoji Rao Scindia, the founder of the Scindia Dynasty, who ruled Malwa when it was taken over by the Marathas from the Mughal Empire.
  • In January 1758, Mahadji established Gwalior as his headquarters.
  • He was involved in the Third Battle of Panipat in 1761.
