Correct Answer - Option 3 : decreases

Explanation:

Viscosity and Its effect:

Viscosity is the most important property of oil when considering engine protection. It determines how the engine’s lubricant will react to changes in speed, pressure, and temperature. It affects heat generation in, cylinders, bearings, and gear sets related to an oil's internal friction.

  • It governs the sealing effect of oils and the rate of oil consumption, as well as determines the ease with which machines may be started or operated under varying temperature conditions, particularly in cold climates.
  • Viscosity is a measure of an oil's resistance to flow. It decreases with increasing temperature and increases with decreased temperature.
  • An oil's viscosity is measured most commonly by kinematic viscosity and its unit is centistoke.
  • A general increase in viscosity at higher temperatures results in lower oil consumption and less wear.
  • During cold winter months, it may be difficult to get your car to start first thing in the morning. This is because colder temperatures cause lubricants to thicken and require more energy to circulate due to reduced flow. As a result, your vehicle’s crankshaft has to push through thick oil in order to spin fast enough for your car to start. This can cause components in your engine to experience wear and tear. However, when the weather is warmer, the oil becomes thinner and easier to circulate.
  • A reduced viscosity at lower temperatures, which will improve starting and lower fuel consumption.
