Correct Answer - Option 3 : 1/3

Concept:

  • For two events A and B, we have: P(A ∪ B) = P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A ∩ B).

Calculation:

Rolling a 6 and rolling a 4 on one roll of a die are mutually exclusive events.

Let E be the event "rolling a 6" and F be the event "rolling a 4”.

\(\rm P \left( E \right) = P \left( {{\rm\text{Rolling 6}}} \right)\)

\(\frac{1}{6}\)

\(\rm P \left( E \right) = P \left( {{\rm\text{Rolling 4}}} \right)\)

\( \frac{1}{4}\)

\(\rm P\left( {E \cup F} \right) = P \left( E \right) + P\left( F \right)\)

\(\frac{1}{6} + \frac{1}{6} = \frac{1}{3}\)
