Correct Answer - Option 2 :

x < y

CALCULATION :

I. 6x + 16y = - 4

Multiplying on both sides by 4, we get,

⇒ 24x + 64y = - 16      ----(1)

II. 8x + 36y = 2

Multiplying on both sides by 3, we get,

⇒ 24x + 108y = 6      ----(2)

Subtracting equation 1 from 2, we get,

⇒ 44y = 22

⇒ y = 1/2      ----(3)

Substituting equation 3 in equation 1, we get,

⇒ 24x + 32 = - 16

⇒ 24x = - 48

⇒ x = - 2

We can observe that x < y.
