Correct Answer - Option 4 : 9 / 4

Given:

The lines x = y / 4 + a and y = x / 4 + b intersect each other at the point (1, 2).

Calculation:

The lines intersect each other at the point (1,2)

It's mean x = 1 and y = 2

The lines x = y / 4 + a and y = x / 4 + b

x = y/4 + a

⇒ 1 = 2/4 + a

⇒ a = 1 – 1/2

⇒ a = 1/2

y = x / 4 + b

⇒ 2 = 1/4 + b

⇒ b = 2 – 1/4

⇒ b = 7/4

a + b

⇒ 1/2 + 7/4

⇒ 9/4

∴ The value of a + b is 9/4.
