Correct Answer - Option 4 : 11 ∶ 9

Given:

The sum of two numbers is 40.

The difference of two number is 4.

Calculation:

Let the larger number be x.

Let the smaller number be y.

According to the question,

⇒ x + y = 40

⇒ x = 40 - y

The difference of two number is 4.

⇒ x - y = 4

⇒ 40 - y - y = 4

⇒ 40- 4 = 2y

⇒ 36 = 2y

⇒ y = 18

The larger number x = 40 - 18 = 22

Required ratio = 22 : 18

⇒ 11 : 9

The ratio of the number is 11 : 9.
