Directions: Two quantities A and B are given in the following questions. You have to find the value to both A and B by using your knowledge of mathematics and choose the most suitable relation between the magnitude of A and B from the given options.

Quantity A - Total number of cats and dogs. Ratio of cats and dogs in a town is 11 : 14. If 12 cats die and 12 dogs are born, ratio becomes 2 : 3.

Quantity B - Find total distance travelled. 26.25% of journey is done by car, and 37.5% by train and remaining 116 km by foot.

1. Quantity A ≥ Quantity B
2. Quantity A ≤ Quantity B
3. Quantity A = Quantity B or no relationship can be established
4. Quantity A > Quantity B

Correct Answer - Option 5 : Quantity A < Quantity B

Quantity A -

Let number of cats and dogs be 11x and 14x

According to condition,

(11x - 12) /  (14x + 12) = 2 / 3

⇒ 33x - 36 = 28x + 24

⇒ 5x = 60

⇒ x = 12

Total animals = (11 + 14) × 12 = 300

Quantity B -

Journey by car = 20 + 6.25 = 1 / 5 + 1 / 16

Journey by train = 37.5% = 3 / 8

Journey by foot = 116

Now,

 x - (1 / 5 + 1 / 16 + 3 / 8) x = 116

⇒ (29 / 80) x = 116

⇒ x = 320

Hence, Quantity A < Quantity B
