A simply supported beam of span 6 m is resting on a 230 mm wide brick wall. Assumed depth of beam is 85 mm per 1 m span, and also assume width of the beam equals width of the support. The factored dead load of the beam is ______.
1. 21.11 kN
2. 26.39 kN
3. 17.6 kN

Correct Answer - Option 2 : 26.39 kN

Calculation:

Given, Total span = 6 m

Depth of beam = 85 mm per 1 m span

Total Depth of beam = 0.085 × 6 = 0.51 m

Width of beam = 230 mm = 0.230 m

We know, Unit weight of RCC structure = 25 KN/m3

Volume of the section = L × B × H

Volume of the section = 6 × 0.230 × 0.51

Volume of the section = 0.7038 m3

Dead load of the beam = Unit weight × Volume of the section

= 25 × 0.7038

= 17.595 KN

Factored dead load of the beam = 1.5 × 17.595 = 26.39 KN
