  • Rajaram (Shastri) Ramakrishna Bhagwat was born in Kelshi village in Rajapur taluka. His education took place in Mumbai.
  • After passing the matriculation examination in 1867, he spent three years in the medical college. But later he left the course and studied Sanskrit.
  • Acharya Rajaramshastri Bhagwat was the brother of Durga Bhagwat's grandmother. He was a staunch reformer and an outspoken person. He was deeply concerned about the upliftment of the untouchables.  
  • Rajaramshastri Bhagwat was a good teacher. He felt special respect for his students.
  • Most of Rajaramshastri 's writings were on social issues. The topics he dealt with were:
    1. Reforms in religious rituals - Munji should be done for everyone, girls should also be done, etc.
    2. Chaturvarnya and caste discrimination.
  • Initially, he believed that widowhood was ungodly, but later in life, he accepted the idea.
  • In 1877, he became a teacher at the Money School. Later he was appointed as a 'Shastri' in St. Xavier's College. He was promoted to college at St. Xavier's, where he was a professor of Sanskrit until the end; In 1884, an organization called 'Bombay High School' was started, he was one of its founders.
  • In the year 1886, he started a school called 'Maratha High School' and brought it to the world in a few years. For the last five or seven years, he was appointed examiner of Sanskrit in the university. In 1902, Acharya Bhagwat was the Lecturer in the Wilson Chair of Linguistics.
