Correct Answer - Option 3 : Union of States

The original text of the Constitution contained 395 articles in 22 parts and eight schedules.

  • It came into effect on January 26, 1950, the day that India celebrates each year as Republic Day.
  • Currently, the Constitution of India has 448 articles in 25 parts and 12 schedules

Article 1 of the Constitution:

  • Article 1 in the Constitution states that India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States.
  • The territory of India shall consist of: The territories of the states, The Union territories and Any territory that may be acquired in future.

The Constitution of India describes India as the Union of States.

  • It is because our Constitution delegates powers to both Centre as well as State, yet more power lies with the Centre.
  • After independence, India, as it is now, was formed by the decision of the princely states, who decided to join India.

Therefore, it is clear that Article 1 of the Indian Constitution describes India as a Union of States.
