Correct Answer - Option 3 : Elected members of the Parliament

The Vice-President occupies the second-highest office in the country.

  • She/He is accorded a rank next to the President in the official warrant of precedence.
  • This office is modelled on the lines of the American Vice-President.

ARTICLE 66 states that the Vice-President shall be elected by the members of an electoral college.

  • The electoral college consists of the members of both Houses of Parliament in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of a single transferable vote and the voting at such election shall be by secret ballot.
  • The Vice-President shall not be a member of either House of Parliament or of a House of the Legislature of any State.
  • If a member of either House of Parliament or of a House of the Legislature of any State is elected Vice-President, he shall be deemed to have vacated his seat in that House on the date on which he enters upon his office as Vice-President.

From the above, we can conclude that the Vice-President of India is elected by the elected members of the Parliament.
