Correct Answer - Option 1 : 39 years

Given:

Maryam’s age – Nisha’s age, 4 years ago = 11 years

Ratio of Maryam’s age, 5 years hence and Nisha’s age 2 years ago = 2 ∶ 1

Calculation:

Let, present age of Maryam and Nisha be x and y respectively

x – (y – 4) = 11

⇒ x – y = 7     ----- (1)

5 years hence, Maryam’s age = x + 5 and 2 years ago, Nisha’s age = y – 2

(x + 5) = 2 (y – 2)

⇒ (x + 5) = 2y – 4

⇒ 2y – x = 9     ---- (2)

On equating, eqn. (1) and (2)

⇒ y = 16

⇒ x = 23

Present ages of Maryam and Nisha are 23 years and 16 years respectively

Therefore, sum of their present ages = 23 + 16 = 39 years

∴ Sum of their present ages is 39 years
