Correct Answer - Option 2 : 33750

Given:

% of voters who did not vote = 10%

% of Invalid votes = 20%

Votes secured by winner = 60% of the total valid votes

The difference of (Winner – Looser) = 4860 votes

Concept:

In this type of question, convert the % into a fraction, then proceed accordingly.

Calculation:

Let total number of voters = 100x

No. of voters appeared to vote = 90% × 100x = 90x

No. of invalid votes = 20% × 90x = 18x

No. of valid votes = 90x - 18x = 72x

No. of votes winner got = 60% × 72x = 432x/10

No. of votes looser got = 40% × 72x = 288x/10

432x/10 - 288x/10 = 4860

⇒ 144x = 48600

⇒ x = 337.5

⇒ 100x = 33750

∴ total number of voters is 33750
