Correct Answer - Option 1 : -3

Concept:

Let z = x + iy be a complex number, Where x is called the real part of the complex number or Re (z) and y is called the Imaginary part of the complex number or Im (z)

  • Condition for purely real: Imaginary part equal to zero.
  • Condition for purely imaginary: Real part equal to zero.

Calculation:

The given expression 2i3 - 3ai2 - (1 + a)i can be simplified as:

= 2(-i) - 3a(-1) - (1 + a)i

= -2i + 3a - i - ai

= 3a - (a + 3)i

For the expression to be real, the imaginary part must be zero.

i.e. a + 3 = 0

a = -3.
