Correct Answer - Option 3 : 9 km

Given:

The distance X can travel in 5 hours by increasing his speed by 1 km/hr is equal to the distance Y can travel in 4 hours after decreasing his speed by 1 km/hr.

The ratio of the speeds of X and Y is 1 : 2.

Formula Used:

Distance = time x speed

Calculation:

Let speed of x and y be a and 2a

Distance is same

(a + 1) × 5 = 4 × (2a – 1)

⇒ a = 3

Now, Distance = (3 × 3) km = 9 km

∴ X can travel 9 km in 3 hours.
