  • Mostly practised in Southeast Asia, northern South America and central Africa.
  • In India, it is known with various names: 
    • Jhumming:- Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland.
    • Khil in the Himalayan belt.
    • Bringa in Odisha.
    • Valre or Walter in southeast Rajasthan.

 Other names:

  • Podu or pennda in Andhra Pradesh.
  • Kuruwa in Jharkhand.
  • Dipa- Bastar (Chhattisgarh) and Andaman & Nicobar Islands etc.
