  • Under Article 76 of the Constitution, the President of India appoints the Attorney General of India, who serves at the President's discretion.
  • He must meet the qualifications for appointment as a Supreme Court Judge.
  • The Attorney General for India is responsible for advising the Government of India on legal matters and performing such legal tasks as may be recommended or assigned to him by the President.
  • In the course of his duties, he has the right of audience in all Indian courts, as well as the right to participate in Parliamentary sessions without the ability to vote. 
  • The Attorney General is aided in his duties by a Solicitor General and four Additional Solicitors General.
