Correct Answer - Option 1 : x ˃ y

From equation I) we get,

 x2 – 15x + 56

⇒  x2 – 7x – 8x + 56

⇒ x (x - 7) – 8(x -7)

⇒ (x - 7)(x - 8)

x = 7, 8

From equation II) we get,

y2 + 17y + 72

⇒ y2 + 8y + 9Y + 72

⇒ y (y + 8) + 9(y + 8)

⇒ (y + 8) (y + 9)

∴ y = -8, -9

Comparison between x and y (via Tabulation):

Value of x Value of y Relation
7 -8 x > y
7 -9 x > y
8 -8 x > y
8 -9 x > y

∴ x > y
