Correct Answer - Option 2 : 0.7 to 1.0%

Concept:

Lintels:

  • Lintels are provided over the openings in walls. They are provided over the doors, windows, and other openings to support the load of the wall above the openings.
  • The distribution of loads over the lintel depends upon the height of the wall above the lintel and the length of the wall available on the sides of the opening.
  • In absence of detailed design, 0.7 to 1.0% or steel reinforcement may be considered for estimation of RCC lintels.

Different types of Lintels:

  • RCC lintel
  • Timber lintel
  • Stone lintel
  • Steel lintel
  • Reinforced brick lintel

Reinforcement of different sections:

For Beams:

  • Maximum reinforcement = 4% of gross area
  • Minimum reinforcement = 0.85bd/fy

For column:

  • Maximum reinforcement = 6% of gross area
  • Minimum reinforcement = 0.8% of gross area

For slab:

  • Minimum reinforcement = 0.15% of gross area(For mild steel)
  • Minimum reinforcement = 0.12% of gross area(For HYSD bars)
