Sarla has Rs. 2,750 in her purse in denominations of hundred and fifty. She has 32 notes in all, counting both hundred and fifty. How many hundred rupee notes does she have in her purse?

Correct Answer - Option 1 : 23

Let the number of hundred rupee notes with Sarla be x and the number of fifty rupee notes be y.

∴ x + y = 32 ... (i)

and, 100x + 50y = 2750

∴ 2x + y = 55 ... (ii)

On solving (i) and (ii)

 ∴ 2x + y = 55

∴ x + (x + y) = 55

∴ x + 32 = 55                     

∴ x = 23

Hence, ‘23’ is the correct answer.
