Best answer

Given 3(p – 7) – 4 = 5

⇒ 3(p – 7) – 4 + 4 = 5 + 4 (Add 4 on both sides)

⇒ 3(p – 7) = 9

\(\frac {3(p-7)}{3} = \frac 93\) (Divide by 3 on both sides)

⇒ p – 7 = 3

⇒ p – 7 + 7 = 3 + 7 (Add 7 on both sides)

⇒ p = 10

Check:

Substitute p = 10 in

3(p – 7) – 4 = 5

LHS = 3(p – 7) – 4.

= 3(10 – 7) – 4.

= 3 × 3 – 4

= 9 – 4 = 5 = RHS

Hence verified.
