1. The contemporary rulers during Mughals were Afghans, Rajputs, Marathas, and Bahaman kings. They opposed Mughal rulers and fought with them.
2. In course of time most of these rulers could not completely succeed in defeating the Mughals.
3. But the Maratha ruler Shivaji could resist the expansion of Mughals and established an independent kingdom.
