There is no doubt that out of all the conspirators, Brutus was the only one who was motivated by a passionate urge of patriotism. He is an idealist and a dreamer. He can sacrifice anything for the cause of common good and public welfare. He is a staunch supporter of republicanism and freedom. He is not cunning and crafty like Cassius. Nor is he manipulative and selfish like Antony. He has no personal grudge against Caesar. He killed Caesar not because he loved Caesar less but because he loved Rome more than Caesar.
