If the total number of teams are not in power of 2 like 2, 4, 8,16,32,64, etc., the total number of teams minus the next highest power of two are given bye. The teams given the byes get an opportunity to play directly in the second round of the game. The formula for bye is: -
No. of teams – next highest power of 2= no. of byes.
No. of byes in the upper half = NB+1/2
No. of byes in lower half = NB+1/2
