Best answer

The correct option (c) [(32)/8]

Explanation:

line: x – y + 1 = 0 &  slope is 1.

curve: x = y2

∴ 1 = 2y ∙ (dy/dx)

∴     (dy/dx) = (1/2y)  i.e. slope = (1/2y)

∴   (1/2y) = 1 ⇒ y = (1/2) and     x = (1/4)

∴    (x, y) = [(1/4), (1/2)]

Shortest distance = [{|(1/4)(1) – (1/2)(1) + 1|}/√(1 + 1)]  = [3/(4√2)]  = [(3√2)/8].
