Power
It is defined as the rate of doing work, it is the work done in unit time.
Power(P) = Work(W) / TIme(t)
• Power is a scalar quantity and its SI unit is joule/second or watt. The dimensional formula of power is [ML2T-3]
• The expression of power in terms of force F and velocity v is
P = Fv cosθ
where, θ = angle between F and v.
• Other units of power are
1kW = 103 W
= 3.6 x 106 J
= 36 MJ
1MW = 106 W,
1HP = 746 W
