Normal Salts :

It is formed by the complete replacement of replaceable hydrogen atoms from an acid molecule by means of a metal or a group of elements acting like a metal.

e.g. NaCl, KCI, FeSO4,Na2SO4, FeCl2, etc., are normal salts.

Acidic Salts :

These salts contains one or more replaceable hydrogen atoms in its molecule.

It is formed by a partial replacement of H-atoms, present in an acid molecule by means of a metal or a positive radical.

e.g. NaHSO4, NaHCO3, KHCO3, NaH2PO4, etc., are acid salts.

Basic Salts :

A salt which contains O2- or OH- group in its molecule is called basic salt.

e.g. Mg(OH)CI, [Mg(OH)2 MgCO3] [Cu(OH), CUCO) etc., are basic salts.

Double Salts :

A double salt is a mixture of two salts which on dissolution in water gives two types of metal ions.

e.g.

Potash alum [K2SO4 Al2(SO4)3 24H2O]

Ferric alum [K2SO4 Fe2(SO4)3 24H2O]

Mohr's salt [FeSO4 (NH4) SO 6H2O]

Complex Salts :

These salts contains a complex ion or complex neutral molecule in which there is a central metal ion surrounded by a number of neutral molecules or negative ions.

e.g. Potassium argento cyanide (KAG(CN2)) tetra amino cupric sulphate (Cu(NH3)4SO4

Alkaline Salts : Normal salts which are formed by neutralisation of a week acid and strong base are called alkaline salt.

e.g. Na2CO3, CH3COONa, Na2B4O7 etc.
