A common instruction is to specify that cheque must be deposited directly into an account with a bank and not encashed by a bank over the counter.

Types of Crossing:

1) General Crossing : Two transverse lines on the face of the cheque The cheque may bear across its face with or without words “& co.” or the words “not negotiable”.

2) Special or Restrictive Crossing of Cheques: a particular bank's name is written in between the two parallel lines.
