Ex-situ.

  • Ex-situ conservation is conservation of biological diversity outside their natural areas and is done through different methods like captive breeding, botanical garden, zoos, aquaria and gene bank etc.
  • It differs from the other strategy called In situ conservation. In-situ conservation is the conservation and protection of genetic resources of plant and animal species in their natural habitats itself, as in Biosphere reserves, National Parks and sanctuaries etc
