The reaction ;

\(\frac {1}{2}H_{2(g)}+ Ag Cl _{(s)} \rightarrow H ^+ _{aq} + Cl ^- _{(aq) }+ Ag _{(s)}\)

occurs in which of the following galvanic cell :

(1) \(pt |H_{2(g)}| HCl _{(soin.)}|AgCl_{(s)}|Ag\)

(2) \(Pt |H_{2(g)}|HCl _ {(soln.)}| AgNO_{3(aq)}|Ag\)

(3) \(Pt |H_{2(g)}|KCl _{(soln.)}| AgCl _{(s)}| Ag\)

(4) \(Ag|AgCl_{(s)}|KCl_{(soln.)}| AgNO_{3(aq.)}| Ag\)

Best answer

Correct option is  (1) \(Pt |H_{2(g)}| HCl _{(soin.)}|AgCl_{(s)}|Ag\)

 \(H_2\) is oxidized to \(H^+\) and thus it will occur at anode, i.e., left side electrode is \(Pt |H_{2(g)}| HCl _{(soin.)}|AgCl_{(s)}|\) reduced to Ag and thus it will occur at cathode, i.e., right side electrode is \(Pt |H_{2(g)}| HCl _{(soin.)}|AgCl_{(s)}|Ag.\)
