It is the formula with actual set of whole number subscripts of all the elements present.

Molecular Formula = (Empirical Formula) x n

For Example: Consider a compound with % C = 40, % H = 6.6 and % O = 53.4.

The empirical formula will be CH2O but if the molecular weight is 180 then the molecular formula is C6H12O6 and the compound is glucose. If the molecular weight is 60, then the molecular formula is C2H4O2 or CH3COOH and the compound is acetic acid.

So two different compounds can have the same empirical formula but will always have different molecular formula.
