The main idea of the story is that Halku is a tenant farmer, who works hard day and night in his field, but in return he does not get sufficiently enough money for his livelihood and to pay-off the debt. He has no money even to buy a blanket to save himself from the biting cold of the January night. His wife Munni has saved some amount in this regard. But the same is paid against his debt to whom the money was taken. As a result of such adverse situation. Halku has to watch over his crops in cold night of January without blanket. The severity of the cold does not allow him to guard his field in the night and his harvest is being grazed by Nilgais, devastating his field. Thus story narrates the real picture of distressed persons like Halku, leaving a gloomy expression on our minds.
