Best answer

Correct option is (3) 220

The HCF and LCM of 40, 240 and 480.

40 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 5

240 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 5

480 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 5

LCM = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 5

= 480

HCF = 2 x 2 x 2 x 5

= 40

Therefore, The LCM is 480 and the HCF is 40 for the number 40, 240 and 480.

Let x be the number then,

According the question,

LCM - HCF = 2x

480 - 40 = 2x

440 = 2x

\(x = \frac {440}{2} \)

\(\therefore x = 220\)

Therefore, The value of the number is 220.
