Panchsheel Agreement is the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence. It was first formally enunciated in the Agreement on Trade and Intercourse. The agreement was between the Tibet region of China and India. The agreement was signed on April 29, 1954. It stated, in its preamble, that the two Governments of India and China “have resolved to enter the present.
The five Principles of the Panchsheel Agreement are as follows:
- Mutual respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty
- Mutual non-aggression
- Mutual non-interference
- Equality and mutual benefit
- Peaceful coexistence
