Find the acceleration of 3 kg mass when acceleration of 2 kg mass is 2 ms–2 as shown in figure.

(A) 3 ms –2 

(B) 2 ms –2

From force diagram of 2 kg block :

10 – kx = 2a = 4

∴ kx = 6

From force diagram of 3 kg block,

kx = 3a

or 6 = 3a

∴ a = 6/3 =2m / s2
