An electric motor has an ohmic resistance of 2Ω and is started from a 110 V line. During its operation the motor takes a current of 10 A. What is the power drawn by this motor? What part of this power is converted into mechanical energy?

Answer: N1 = 1100 W; 82%.

Explanation:

The power required by the motor is N1 = VI; the power expended on heating the motor windings is N2 = I2R; the power converted into mechanical energy is N3 = N1 — N2 = I(V—IR).
