Given that

On expanding both determinants, we get 

x × x − 18 × 2 = 6 × 6 − 18 × 2 

⇒ x2 − 36 = 36 − 36 ⇒ x2 − 36 = 0 

⇒ x2 = 36 ⇒ x = ± 6
